The Spirit of St. Louis squared ( proceeds from the sale of this scope go to the Brewster Society) David Sugich

(“The Spirit of St. Louis” ) 2  was created for the Foundry Art Centre Exhibit “Kaleidoscopes : The Art Form” and to celebrate the 2022 BKS Expo in St. Louis. MO.

The name of this scope is kind of a play on words .. This particular mirror system creates spheres made up of squares..   “The Spirit of St. Louis “airplane has a wingspan that goes straight across square to the fuselage and so the idea of representing the airplane  lended itself to using this mirror system. I used a schematic of this famous plane “The Spirit of St. Louis” to commemorate this show, as investors from this wonderful city made Mr. Lindbergh’s flight possible, and it’s also the home of our 2022 Brewster Convention. . So the etching is actually half of the image and the other half is reflected..   I liked the criss cross effect that this mirror system creates to get a feeling of an airplane hanger and manufacturing facility.. I hope it comes across in the way I had in mind.  Also, in the “Nova” series of scopes that I make  I use little reflective bits that move inside the actual mirror system and fall towards the viewer in a three dimensional explosion/Implosion.. and these bits fall onto a lens and each time create a kaleidoscopic image on the lens that also creates a teleidoscopic image.  So all of these kind of scopes are both kaleido, and teleido scopes.. not one and not the other.. but both!  But I’m calling it a kaleidosocpe or a Novascope.

Thanks
